Artist / Educator / Curator / Performer / Wellness Practitioner

Felicia ‘Fe’ Montes (M.A./M.F.A.) is a Xicana Indigenous artivist living and working in East Los Angeles, California. She is a holistic artivist, femcee, designer, poet, practitioner of the healing arts, and assistant professor of Chicanx/Latinx arts and Social Practice at Cal State Long Beach. She is the co-founder and director of artivist organizations and projects Mujeres de Maiz, In Lak Ech, Botanica del Barrio and El MERCADO. Fe is known throughout the United States as an established cultural worker with over 3 decades experience in art, community and ancestral traditions

MY PRACTICE

Nurtures community activations that build on communal ancestral knowledge and cultural memory. As part of my practice, I actively seek out and study with Chicana, Indigenous, and Latinx mentors and teachers. I am an apprentice of Mexican Traditional Medicine (curanderismo), a traditional Indigenous dancer and singer, and a facilitator of cultural knowledge.
The mobile social practice artwork I produce is an offering for justice and wellbeing to and for my community.

Felicia is an artist and performer dedicated to create, curate, exhibit. perform and produce creative programs such as exhibitions, performances art, social practice works, and more.

She is an interdisciplinary social practice artist who believes art can educate, empower and transform. She creates installations, silkscreens, interventions, happenings, photographs and social practice art work. including sculpture, video, and performance.

Her work has been shared in local and international spaces including galleries, universities, and cultural centers.

Felicia ‘Fe’ Montes is a Xicana Indigenous healer, artist, and wellness advocate dedicated to holistic health, cultural preservation, and community empowerment. As a practitioner of the healing arts, she integrates Western Herbalism, Mexican Traditional Medicine, and Indigenous dance into her approach to wellness. Through her initiative, La Botanica del Barrio, Montes offers self-care workshops and holistic health to diverse audiences, fostering healing and empowerment across generations.

Felicia founder the Coyolxauqh Talking Circle where she has facilitated monthly circles for 15 years. She also has been asked to offer rites of passage for various people seeking to reconnect with cultural knowledge and MeXica(n) tradition.
